Israel wants more than a million Palestinians in Gaza to move further south for their safety, but the United Nations says an evacuation of that scale cannot be achieved without devastating humanitarian consequences.

The World Health Organisation says it’s impossible for health staff in Gaza to move vulnerable patients in hospitals, with a spokesperson saying health facilities there are already at breaking point and trying to transport patients will be a death sentence.

Hamas has called Israel’s request ” false propaganda” and is urging Palestinians not to fall for it.

The Tánaiste, meanwhile, has called on Israel to rescind its evacuation order from Gaza.

Foreign Affairs Minister Michael Martin says moving so many people, safely, in that time, isn’t possible.

Former Director of Trocaire, Eamon Meehan, who’s travelled to Gaza four times through his work with the humanitarian organisation, says this is the latest in what’s been an ongoing conflict for many decades.

Now the Chair of Sadaka, the Kilmaley native insists that those on both sides who’ve committed war crimes must appear before the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Israel controls most of the access points to Gaza, with the exception of the Rafah crossing into Egypt, and that route has been bombed on several occasions this week.
