Forecasters say ground temperatures will remain below zero over the next 24 hours, with showers of rain coming in from the west resulting in treacherous conditions, even on treated road surfaces.

The Cliffs of Moher is currently impassable following a recent fall of sleet on the R478 Lisdoonvarna to Liscannor.

Council crews are in attendance and working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but Public transport through the area will be impacted for the time being.

Clare County Council says its Winter Maintenance Team will continue to be deployed across priority routes on the county’s road network, that priority roads will be treated and conditions will be monitored.

A yellow alert for the entire country has been extended until midday tomorrow and Meteorologist with Met Éireann, Brandon Creagh, says wintry showers later on will affect both roads and footpaths.
