A member of Clare’s Road Safety Working Group says anyone feeling frustrated by planned speed limit reductions needs to remember the roads are a shared space.
It comes amid plans to reduced speed limits on four major routes in the county by 20km/h.
Under Phase two of the National Speed Limit Review, limits on the R458 from Ennis to Ballyline, the R352 at Caherlohan, the R445 from the Radisson to Limerick and the N68 at Darragh are all set to change from 100km/h to 80km/h.
Members of the public have until 5pm on August 31st to make their views known to Clare County Council.
According to the World Health Organisation, a 5% reduction in average speed can result in a 30% reduction in fatal collisions.”
Ardnacrusha Fianna Fáil Councillor Rachel Hartigan says motorists need to keep the safety improvements in mind.
Speed limit changes have been long sought on the N68 at Darragh and the R352 at Caherlohan, with both stretches seeing a high volume of road traffic collisions in recent years.
