A status orange wind alert was in place for the county up until midnight last night, with gusts of up to 117 kilometres per hour recorded in Shannon.

There are currently just over 200 homes and businesses in the Ennis, Ennistymon, Drumquin and Miltown areas without power and ESB crews are working to restore supply by this afternoon.

Emergency services have reported a busy night, with a number of trees down in parts of the county, particularly in West Clare, and Gardaí are warning people to be on the lookout for debris on the roads and downed wires.

A yellow alert remains in place until 9 o’clock this morning and Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather outlines what’s in store across the country for the rest of today.
