Tulla native, Kirsty Donnellan lost her daughter Scarlett in 2018 after she suffered fatal head injuries.

In the months prior to her death, Scarlett made the decision to become an organ donor known to her mother.

As a result of her selfless decision, five people were given a second chance at life through transplants.

Kirsty says without discussing her daughter’s intention to donate, she may not have respected her wishes.

Meanwhile, a west Clare woman has spoken of the physical and mental tolls of waiting on the transplant list.

Aine Mae Crowley from Miltown received a liver and pancreas transplant in 2017.

She had suffered with diabetes since the age of eight and as a result of complications her kidneys began shutting down requiring dialysis three times a week and leaving her unable to drink more than 100ml of water a day.

Aine Mae says her life has changed completely since receiving her transplant.
