Disappointment has been expressed in Clare over a HSE recommendation on homebirths, which one mother claims will take birthing options away from mothers.
The health service executive has recommended that homebirths would be limited to women who live within 30 minutes of a maternity hospital.
The move has been criticised for denying one-fifth of pregnant women the option of a home birth, with community midwives saying the change would have the greatest impact on those living in rural areas.
Ennis resident Petrina O’Halloran of Birth and Beyond, who gave birth to her second child at home, says women are well able to assess risk themselves.
