A Clare mother and her son will travel to Spain to undertake the mammoth task of an ironman to honour the memory of her late brother.
On the fifth of October, Siobhán and Luke O’Dea are participating in the Barcelona race, consisting of a 4km swim, a 180km cycle before finishing off with a marathon.
Siobhán’s brother Michael Carmody passed away less than three years after a motor neuron disease diagnosis, with €9,500 already raised through a fundraiser set up in aid of the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association.
She says given Michael’s determinedness to fight the condition, it’s an apt way to commemorate his life.
