A Clare survivor of a mother and baby home has issued a scathing criticism of the redress scheme proposals in the programme for government.
The document doesen’t include any provision for the reversal of the six month rule which essentially means babies who spent less than half a year in an institution are not entitled to compensation.
It’s believed up to 168 babies lost their lives at a registered Mother and Baby Home in Kilrush between 1923 and 1932 while investigations continue into a separate facility at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis which remained open until the 1960s.
Cree man Anthony Morrissey who was adopted at birth says the situation is not good enough.
