The Mayor Of Clare has slammed the decision by the Transport Minister to exclude phase two of the Northern Distributor Road from the Limerick Shannon Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (LSMATS).
The revised draft of the plan, commissioned by the Department of Transport, makes no mention of progressing stage two of the vital road infrastuctue, despite construction already having begun on phase one from Coonagh to Knockalisheen.
The completion of the first stage of the project has also been cast into doubt after the contractors responsible for it’s delivery went into receivership earlier in the year.
Independent Councillor from Sixmilebridge PJ Ryan says there’s no alternative to the Northern Distributor Road.
