The Mayor of Clare says the Brennan’s Cross area of Meelick is ‘an accident waiting to happen’.
The road from the new Knockalisheen Roundabout to Watchouse Cross is to be closed for a number of months as it’s being upgraded in line with Northern Distributor Road project requirements.
It’s expected to lead to an increased amount of traffic circulating through the South East Clare village while works take place.
Clare County Council says detailed designs are currently being prepared to improve pedestrian safety and public lighting in Meelick.
Independent Councillor PJ Ryan says the area badly needs to be upgraded.

‘Clare County Council, through the Road Design Office and Shannon Municipal District Offices, will be examining the various roads issues raised and potential funding sources for safety improvement works in this area.
Detail designs are currently being prepared to improve footpath connectivity, pedestrian safety, and public lighting in Meelick Village.’
