Clare Live Register Numbers Jump By 30% In Past Year

The number of people on the Live Register in Clare has jumped by 30 percent in the past year alone.

More than five thousand people in this county signed on at local social welfare offices last month.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show 5,047 people across the county received some form of unemployment benefit in November.

 

That’s a jump of more than 1,100 people in the last twelve months alone, and is the highest November figure since 2017.

Nearly half of those on the Live Register here paid a visit to Ennis’ social welfare office last month.

More than 1,200 people signed on in Ennistymon, with a further 765 recipients receiving their payment in Kilrush.

Tulla’s office saw 550 people come through its door to claim some form of benefit in November.

More than 10 percent of those signing on in Clare are under 25 years of age, while there’s a relatively even split between male and female recipients here.
