Clare Leader Forum To Hold Protest In Ennis Today Calling For The Urgent Introduction Of ‘Life Changing Legislation’

A protest is taking place in Ennis today to highlight the need for Personal Assistants for people with disabilities, to enable them to live independently.

The demonstration at O’Connell monument in Ennis at 12pm this afternoon is one of a number taking place across the country, calling for the right to P.A.S. to be established in Irish law as a matter of urgency.

Under article five of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, which Ireland ratified in 2018, disabled persons are entitled to a personal assistant service upon request.

 

However no directive has yet been implemented to bring the scheme to fruition in this country and Clare Leader Forum member, Trish McNamara claims the lack of urgency is having a detrimental impact on livelihoods.
