Long-time campaigner and disability rights activist Dermot Hayes has died.
The founder of the Clare Leader Forum and chair of the Clare Branch of the Irish Kidney Association, passed away peacefully yesterday evening.

Last month Dermot was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the Clare Leader Forum’s ‘People Power: Disabled Activism and Allyship in Driving Change, Inclusion, Equality and Combating Ableism’ event
Meanwhile, in May of 2025 he was the recipient of an award from the Clare Older People’s Council recognising his lifelong commitment to activism and volunteerism.
