Clare Lawyer Suggests Flotilla Activists May Have Been Subject To Torture

A Clare lawyer providing legal support to Irish activists detained by Israel claims there could be grounds for allegations of torture.

15 Irish citizens who were participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla attempting to deliver aid to Gaza were released yesterday after being apprehended by Israeli forces last week.

Among them was Clare Public Participation Network founder Sarah Clancy who alleges she was placed in a cell with eight heavily-armed officers and pushed against a wall when she asked for a mattress to sleep on.

Ennistymon native and member of Irish Lawyers for Palestine, Leigh Brosnan, says the conduct of the Israeli authorities appears to have been “inhumane and degrading” at the very least.
