Clare Labour Party Members Express Shock And Sadness Following Death Of Jo Cox

Members of the Labour Party in Clare have expressed their shock and sadness over the death of British MP Jo Cox.

The mother of two was shot and stabbed to death, outside her advice surgery in Birstall yesterday.

British politicians are now being told to review their security following the incident in West Yorkshire.

Tributes have been pouring in for mother of two and British MP Jo Cox today who was attacked in Birstall in her West Yorkshire constituency after holding an advice surgery.

A 52-year-old man – named locally as Tommy Mair – was arrested and remains in custody.

Democratic Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton called Jo a "rising star", and French President Francois Hollande sent his condolences to her family. 

The Canadian parliament paused for a minute's silence – following a tearful tribute from MP Nathan Cullen, who knew her.

British politicians are now being told to review their security following the attack and Downing street says a reminder of safety guidance has been sent out to MPs.

Rachel Reeves – who represents nearby Leeds West – says MPs couldn't do their jobs if they locked themselves away.

Here, President Michael D Higgins and Leader of the Labout Party Brendan Howlin have also expressed their condolances.

Clare Labour have had a close relationship with their counterparts in the UK for many years.
