Clare JPC Member Calls For Doorstepping To Make Elderly People Feel Safe This Winter

Members of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee could be set to knock on doors in rural areas this winter to reassure elderly members of the community.

It follows concerns raised about crime outside of urban centres following an aggravated burglary on a 93-year-old woman in the West of the country.

Fears have previously been raised by elected members at this county’s JPC that the new policing model removing Gardai from rural areas is putting increased strain on small villages.

 

Committee member and Kilmurry-based Fianna Fail Councillor Alan O’ Callaghan says a more proactive approach may be needed by all stakeholders.
