Clare Infectious Disease Expert Insists It’s Time To Get Serious About Testing

A Clare infectious disease expert insists it’s time to get serious about free testing for viruses.

It follows an appeal from Public Health Midwest for people in this county to limit their social contacts if they’re feeling unwell, following a rise in cases of Covid, flu and RSV in recent weeks.

582 cases of Covid have been confirmed across Clare, Limerick and Tipperary over the past seven days, with 186 new cases of flu documented in the region in the first four days of January.

Sixmilebridge native, Professor James McIneney is the Principal Investigator at the School of Life Sciences at the University of Nottingham.

He says test kits for viruses should be readily available to people so they don’t circulate when feeling unwell.
