Clare Immigrant Support Centre Hopeful People Can Accept Ireland’s Role In Receiving Refugees Into The Future

The Clare Immigrant Support Centre is hopeful that people can accept Ireland will continue to have a role in receiving refugees into the future.

In 2022, Clare has accepted more than 3,600 Ukrainian refugees, with around a quarter of those understood to be in the town of Lisdoonvarna, nearly 700 in Ennis and around 400 in Shannon.

Concerns relating to the country’s capacity to continue accommodating such numbers were raised in the last quarter of the year, with protests outside an assylum seeker centre in the capital.

 

Co-ordinator of the Clare Immigrant Support Centre, Orla Ní Éilí, is hopeful communities can learn to live together in 2023.
