The head of the IFA in Clare says the group's planned protest outside meat factories next week is "drastic" but "justified."
Around 150 Clare farmers will take part in a 24-hour demonstration outside of Ireland's meat factories next week, in the latest part of their campaign to improve prices in the beef sector.
The IFA says falling beef prices mean farmers in the sector are being paid 350 euro less per head of cattle than their counterparts in Britain, and less than the European average.
They feel a beef forum set up to address issues in the sector hasn't worked, and have now called a 24-hour protest to take place outside meat factories.
Andrew Dundass, head of the IFA in Clare, feels they have little other option.
Mr. Dundass expects around 150 Clare farmers to take part in Monday's demonstration, which won't be their first on this issue.
Last month, up to 200 local farmers took to the streets of Ennis to air their concerns.
The issue will be discussed tonight at a Clare IFA Executive meeting, but Andrew Dundass is already warning that there will be more protests if their call is not listened to.
