Clare IFA Chair Criticises Minister For “Unacceptable” Delay In Issuing Farm Income Support

The Clare County Chair of the IFA has criticised the Minister for Agriculture’s “unacceptable” delay in issuing income support to farmers across the country.

Minister Charlie McConalogue has announced that advance payments are being issued to farmers under the Basic Income Support for Sustainability as well as the Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability schemes.

The advance payments are worth over €452 million to 103,764 farmers and in Clare alone, 5,309 payments have been made which represents a total value of over €20 million.

However, Clare County Chair of the Irish Farmers Association, Tom Lane says considering the pressure farmers are currently under, the payments should’ve come well in advance of this week.
