Clare IFA Chair Claims Farmers Still Facing Shameful Intrusion Through Compulsory Purchase Orders

Clare’s IFA Chair is calling on the government to urgently revisit the compensation paid to farmers impacted by compulsory purchase orders.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Irish Farmers Association have reached a new agreement this week that would see landowners receive an additional fixed payment of €6,500 per acre for granting early access to developers.

In the event that a farm building is demolished to facilitate a major project such as the construction of a road, the state will now have to fully cover any replacement costs.

Parteen Farmer Tom Lane however believes the new measure doesn’t go nearly far enough to address the disruption caused.
