Clare ICSA Rep Believes Farmers Will Be Very Disappointed With How CAP Programme Pans Out

The Clare-based General Secretary of the ICSA believes many farmers will be very disappointed with how the CAP programme pans out from next year.

This is despite the Agriculture Minister describing the plan, which was formally adopted earlier this week, as farmer friendly and well-funded, with almost 10 billion in funding allocated to support it’s implementation.

Cratloe farmer Eddie Punch says the plan isn’t fit for purpose when you consider escalating costs, a substantial cut in supports for many farmers and lots of red tape which makes some of the schemes unattractive for some farmers.

 

He says it’s particularly disappointing that there aren’t more supports for suckler, sheep and beef finishing sectors.
