The Chair of Clare County Council’s Housing Committee says a lack of infrastructure in towns and villages here could stall property building in this county.
It comes as the bulk buying of houses and duplexes will now incur a stamp duty rate of 10 per cent after new rules came in overnight.
However, the government say there are no plans to introduce a vacant property tax as a measure of tackling the housing crisis.
Despite bulk buying being more of an issue in urban counties than in Clare, Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn believes it’s a lack of facilities here that are preventing enough houses being built.
