Clare housholders warned of danger of domestic fires

Clare householders are being urged to be "that bit more vigilant" about fire safety over the festive season.

In the past few years, the the county’s firefighters have attended numerous incidents over Christmas from house and chimney fires to smaller blazes due to faulty lights or unattended candles .

In 2011 alone brigades throughout Clare were mobilised to 48 incidents over the festive season including 24 chimney fires and 4 house fires.

Stastics show that 80 percent of fire deaths occour in the home.
