Clare Hot School Meals Provider Forced To Let Staff Go Due To Regulation Change

A Clare hot school meals provider says contacting schools to let them know he wouldn’t be able to give the service anymore was one of the most difficult things he’s ever had to do.

More than 10 Clare schools are now unable to avail of the Government’s Hot School Meals Scheme due to a change in the Food Safety Authority of Ireland’s regulations.

The affected schools were informed of the change, which requires schools to pay for daily waste removal rather than send food waste home for composting, last Friday.

Shannon Fine Gael Councillor Tony Mulcahy, who’s the Managing Director of Freshtoday, says he’s been forced to let staff go.
