Clare homeowners are being urged to take additional steps to prevent would-be burglars to access their homes.
It comes as a survey shows there was an increase in the number of burglaries throughout Ireland last year, with a fifth of people saying they know someone who’s fallen victim to a burglary in the past two years.

The survey by insuremyhouse.ie shows that trend is being bucked here in Clare where there were 237 burglaries last year, down from 290 in 2016, marking a 22 percent fall.
However, Household Manager with InsureMyHouse.ie Deirdre McCarthy says it’s still vital to follow basic safety protocol.
