From the beginning of this month, Clare’s new Homeless Action Team has been operating as the point of contact for those at risk of homelessness in this county.

As one of its first tasks, the team has urged anyone who is sleeping outdoors in Clare to get in touch, so that they can put them into emergency accommodation.

It comes as Clare FM listeners have raised concern about tents pitched on the green area beside the Glór theatre in Ennis, where it’s feared homeless people have been sleeping despite the recent cold and wet weather.

The Homeless Action Team says it is aware of two tents, which have been there for several weeks.

There has been engagement with Clare HAT by one individual and emergency accommodation has been provided to that person, while the team also says it’s important to note that engagement is voluntary and that all who present to them will have their needs assessed.

The HAT office is open to the public from 9.30am to 1pm Monday to Friday in Áras Contae an Chláir and can also be contacted on 065 684 6291.
