Clare Hosting Highest Proportion Of International Protection Applicants In Munster

Clare is currently hosting the tenth highest proportion of International Protection Applicants of any county nationwide.

The latest data shows that there are now almost 700 people residing here that are waiting for their application for refugee status to be determined.

At the beginning of December, there were approximately 677 International Protection Applicants residing in Clare.

The figures, released to AontĂș following a parliamentary question on the matter show that this amount now represents 0.5% of the county’s population.

Meaning Clare is now hosting the highest proportion of International Protection Applicants in Munster and the eleventh highest total nationwide.

Donegal has the highest total in this regard with 0.98% of the resident population now classed as International Protection Applicants, which equates to 1,641 people.

The data coincides with new figures from the Department Of Integration which shows that as of the January 7th, Clare is also hosting the fourth highest total of Ukrainian Refugees in the country.

The 3,763 beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine residing here represents 6% of the national total and now makes up 2.9% of Clare’s population.

Kerry is now hosting the greatest amount of Ukrainian Refugees both per capita and in total with 7,292 arrivals since the outbreak of war in 2022.
