Clare’s dairy and suckler herds have remained largely the same size over the past year.
Figures released by the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation, and first compiled by the Agriland website, shows there were 72,335 beef cows in Clare in 2017.

That’s the third highest figure of any county in Ireland – behind only Galway and Mayo – but is an annual drop of nearly 200.
There were just under 34,000 dairy cows in Clare, a number which has jumped by 600 in the past year.
