Clare Health Forum Member Insists Midwest Emergency Department Review Findings Needed “As Quickly As Possible”

A Clare Regional Health Forum West member insists the findings of a HIQA review examining the case for a second emergency department in the Midwest are needed “as quickly as possible”.

It comes as the Chief Executive of the HSE has received the long-awaited report by former Chief Justice Frank Clarke into the death of Shannon teenager Aoife Johnston at University Hospital Limerick.

Responding to Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan at the Regional Health Forum West AGM, UL Hospitals Group CEO Colette Cowan says the terms of reference of the review into urgent and emergency care capacity in the Midwest will be revealed once the Frank Clarke report is completed.

Councillor McGettigan says now the report is with the HSE CEO, there’s no reason for any more stalling on the HIQA review.
