Clare Haulier Warns Industry Might Not Meet Christmas Rush Over Driver Shortage

A Clare haulier is warning the industry may not be able to meet the Christmas rush this year due to a critical shortage of drivers.

It comes as the Irish Road Hauliage Association has predicted the driver shortage will lead to higher grocery prices, delayed deliveries and uncertainty over whether the haulage industry will be able to meet heightened demand this festive season.

The association has called on the Government to take simple steps to alleviate bureaucracy preventing it from bringing in drivers from abroad to meet demand.

Former IRHA President, Eugene Drennan of SPA Transport in Ennis says the situation is now at crisis point and urgent measures are needed.
