Clare Haulier Criticises Transport Minister For Lack Of Understanding Of Costs People Are Faced With

The Clare-based President of the Irish Road Hauliage Association has criticised the Transport Minister, for what he’s described as a complete lack of understanding of the costs people are being faced with.

Minister Eamon Ryan has agreed to review planned increases in road tolls due to come into force from January 1st, despite saying only yesterday that the money raised was needed to maintain roads and provide public transport services.

It follows a meeting with coalition party leaders, with the Fianna Fail and Fine Gael leaders expressing concern that the inflationary price rises are not a good idea at a time when Government is seeking to ease the financial burden on people during the cost-of-living crisis.

IRHA President, Ennis Haulier Eugene Drennan has previously pledged that they won’t take strike action before Christmas, but he’s warned that in the new year they’ll have to consider their options and he says it’s the consumer that will suffer.
