Clare has the fourth lowest amount of HSE contracted General Practitioners of any local health office nationwide.
New HSE figures show this county gained just one GP in the last six years.
According to HSE figures released to Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson TD David Cullinane, there are now 57 General Practitioners operating in Clare, with just three of these catering to private patients only.
In 2020, there were 56 GPs in Clare, meaning this county has seen a net gain of just one general practice in the past six years.
The only local health offices with fewer GPs than Clare are Roscommon with 34, West Cork with 46 and the LHO of North Tipperary/East Limerick which has 52.
In Census 2022, Waterford recorded a population of 127,363, marginally below Clare’s 127,939, despite this it has 80 GPs, 23 more than Clare’s total.
