Clare’s only Green Party Councillor has submitted her resignation from the local authority.
Miltown Malbay-based representative Susan Crawford’s decision will take effect from the end of next month.
Councillor Crawford was co-opted onto the local authority less than a year ago, filling the seat vacated by fellow Inagh native Roisin Garvey after her appointment to the Seanad.
In a letter seen by Clare FM, fellow Councillors have been advised that Ms Crawford has issued her resignation, effective from the 31st August – the reasons for doing so are not disclosed.
The Green Party will now once again have to nominate a candidate to take up the vacant seat.
The Milltown Malbay-based Councillor is a lecturer and researcher at UCC, and was named Clare Person Of The Year in 2020.
The person co-opted to fill the position will also take up a place on the Committees that Councillor Crawford was a part of, including the Board of Glor Irish Music Centre and the Regional Health Forum West.
The local authority is acknowledging Councillor Crawford’s contribution to the Council over the last 12 months and is wishing her well in her future endeavours.
