Clare Granted 75% Of Requested Flood Repair Funding

Just over 75% of the funding required to repair Clare roads following recent storms has been announced for Clare.

It comes as part of an 85 million euro severe weather fund announced by the Transport Minister today, which will be made available immediately to local authorities to enable them to carry out repairs to damaged infrstructure.

2.8 million euro has been allocated to Clare County Council, which falls short of the 3.7 million requested by the local authority in recent weeks.

Outgoing Fine Gael TD Pat Breen says it's a welcome announcement but he hopes that more money will be made available in the short term. 

Meanwhile, a Clonlara resident is hitting out at politicians for a lack of information on how the area will be protected against flooding in the future. 

Geraldine Quinlivan from Springfield will bespeaking at a protest in Athlone tomorrow involving people from around the country who were impacted by the heavy rains of the last number of months.

Geraldine says, despite plenty of assurances that something would be done to help her and her family she's heard very little from any of the candidates during the general election campaign.
