Clare’s GRA representative says arrangements for Garda accommodation ahead of the Irish Open are “not ideal”.
Members of An Garda Síochána from across the country are being drafted into Clare for the major golfing event at Trump International Hotel and Golf Links in a fortnight’s time, in what will be the biggest policing operation in the country this year.
US President Donald Trump is expected to fly by helicopter from Shannon Airport to his Doonbeg golf course, following a short visit to Dublin.
Gardaí have reportedly been told to “manage their own accommodation needs”, despite hotel prices in the region rising to more than €1,000 a night.
Clare GRA representative Dominic Curtin says they’re being told there won’t be enough accommodation for everyone, something he says is difficult to understand given the amount of advance notice.
