A Clare GP is advising parents to reduce their children’s level of contact with others to stave off the threat of RSV.
Most commonly detected in the months of December and January, RSV is a common virus that causes coughs and colds and may cause infection in the lower part of the respirary system.
Babies and young children suffer the most with the virus, and research conducted as part of the Together Against RSV awareness campaign shows just under half of parents claim they aren’t confident they could identify the condition’s symptoms.
Dr Máire Finn of Ennis Centric Health says as there’s no treatment for RSV, preventing children from potentially being exposed to it is the best way to avoid it.
