Clare GP Fears Influx Of Patients In September

A Clare GP says she fears an influx of patients into the health system, as more people can now see their local doctors for free.

This year has seen the government begin free GP care schemes for all children under 6, as well as for all people over 70.

The roll-out of free visits for children was opposed by the National Association of GPs, including Shannon-based Dr. Yvonne Williams, though she has now signed up.

She says many doctors did so because they'd no other choice, and thinks this winter could see even more stress on the health system as a result.
