Clare Govt TD Insists Balanced Budget Will Avoid “Economic Turbulence”

A Clare member of the Oireachtas Budgetary Oversight Committee insists a balanced budget 2026 is crucial to prevent any economic turbulence.

With details of the €9.4bn package to be unveiled shortly , Clare’s Government TD’s have been outlining what impact they’re hoping today’s measures will have.

With one off cost of living measures already ruled out, the coalition has promised more meaningful supports in the long run.

It’s unclear what this will look like right away, but an increased renters tax credit and broader access to the fuel allowance
is expected.

Bodyke Fine Gael TD Joe Cooney admits that while “the cost of living has gone crazy”, he’s confident strong measures will be in place to expedite housing delivery and ease pressure on working families.

No income tax package is expected this year and while there has been controversy over proposed reductions to college fees, one Clare TD insists a permanent reduction will make the third level experience more viable.

The coalition is also pledging to fund 1,000 new Gardaí , 800 special education teachers and 1,700 SNAs.

Meelick Fianna Fáil Deputy Cathal Crowe is confident the budget will strike the right balance.
