A Clare government representative says the HSE never delivered a centre of excellence at the region’s main hospital, but rather a ‘centre of death’.
Senior members of the HSE have appeared before the Oireachtas health committee to address record levels of overcrowding after emergency measures were implemented on December 22nd and an internal incident was declared at University Hospital Limerick on January 2nd.
Speaking at the meeting, Meelick Deputy Cathal Crowe, asked that the HSE acknowledge that the decision in 2009 to reconfigure services in the MidWest and close the emergency departments at Ennis, Nenagh and St. John’s was a mistake.
However, interim CEO of the HSE, Stephen Mulvany insists the right decision was made.
