Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD is calling for an urgent decision to be made on the provision of sewerage schemes for Cooraclare and Broadford.
The villages are among the rural communities in the county to have applied for a €50 million government pilot programme in April aiming to connect unsewered settlements to wastewater infrastructure.
Concern has emerged among locals over the current viability of the applications, after a Ministerial directive ordered the dezoning of seven areas in each village previously marked for residential use in the county development plan.
Meelick Deputy Cathal Crowe says the commencement of the scheme is vital for the future of rural housing.
