Clare Government TD Wants Antigen Testing At Airports In Spite Of CMO Advice

A Clare Government TD wants the Minister for Transport to press ahead with introducing antigen testing at airports – despite the advice of the Chief Medical Officer to the contrary.

Dr Tony Holohan yesterday told the Oireachtas Transport Committee, which includes several Clare representatives, that there’s no evidence to support the claim that antigen testing was more effective than PCR testing for travel.

Passengers arriving into Ireland currently need a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival, with the CMO saying NPHET will continue to review emerging evidence on the matter.

Clarecastle-based Fine Gael Deputy Joe Carey sits on the Committee – he wants Minister Eamon Ryan to introduce rapid antigen testing at airports in spite of that advice.
