Clare’s Fine Gael TD believes the possibility of extending the time between Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations should be explored to allow more adults to receive the jab quicker.
It comes as government considers allowing under-60s take the AstraZeneca vaccine if they consent, with the current vaccination plan set to slow due to NIAC recommending against the use of the jab for under 60s.
The country is likely to administer 40,000 fewer jabs next week than planned as a result, though Clare’s vaccination centre at Treacy’s West County Hotel in Ennis is still scheduled to begin operations on April 26th.
Deputy Joe Carey believes real world evidence from the UK suggests extending waiting times for a second Pfizer dose beyond four weeks should be seriously considered.
