It follows comments by the Green Party Leader who says Ireland needs to follow the lead of the United States and China and move away from coal fired energy generation and focus on renewable energy.
Eamon Ryan has pointed to advice from environmental experts who believe burning coal is having a catastrophic on our climate and he insists there's no option but to close the Clare power station.
But Clare Fine Gael TD Pat Breen says that would have a serious impact on hundreds of families here.
