A Clare Government TD says he’s ‘hopeful’ a route between Shannon Airport and Amsterdam Schiphol will soon be established.

It’s after the Department of Transport revealed it’s ‘considering’ a request from the Shannon Airport Group to subvent the route as part of a Public Service Obligation, which is where support is provided to airlines to operate what are considered ‘essential’ services in isolated areas.

Only one such route is in operation currently in Ireland, which is an Aer Lingus route between Dublin and Donegal.

Speaking with Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville, Clare Fianna Fáil Deputy Cathal Crowe says the route would be a gamechanger for the Midwest region.
