A Clare Government TD admits raising PRSI rates to fund the state pension age of 66 would be ‘a hard sell’.
It comes as the Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection is launching a report today rejecting a recommendation from the Pensions Commission to increase the retirement age.

It also wants mandatory retirement clauses in contracts to be banned.
There’s concern that within the next two decades there won’t be enough workers to adequately fund the state pension.
Clarecastle-based Fine Gael Deputy Joe Carey, who’s a member of the Committee, has been telling Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville that the proposals need thorough examination.
