Clare Genealogy Project to link locals with diaspora

Six Clare communities are taking part in a pilot project aimed at linking up with people of Clare heritage leaving outside of Ireland.

The Clare Ireland Reaching Out (IRO) Project is being rolled out on a pilot basis in Tulla, Kilrush, Ballyvaughan, Clarecastle/Ballyea, Kildysart and Kilmaley.

The government-sponsored initiative is a reverse genealogy project, which instead of waiting for Irish Diaspora to trace their roots, sees communities or parishes proactively search for people with roots in their areas.

An eight week training program to assist in this has now begun, and other parishes will likely be given the opportunity to take part later this year.
