Clare GE16 candidate calls for answers on lack of pediatric surgery facility in the county

A Clare Independent election candidate is calling on the HSE to explain why no paediatric surgery unit has been established in the region, despite a recommendation more than a decade ago.

Anne Norton says recommendations were made following the death of a two-year-old County Clare child at University Hospital Limerick 11 years ago but despite this no progress has been made in establishing such a service.

She claims that, as a result, many children are having procedures either delayed or cancelled, leading to fears from parents over the standard of treatment being received.

Councillor Norton says many families in Clare are being forced to travel to as far away as Dublin to get required treatment.
