Clare Gardaí Warn That Use Of E-Scooters In Public Places Can Lead To Prosecution

Clare Gardaí are warning that people will be prosecuted for operating e-scooters in public places, without the necessary documentation.

Under the Road Traffic Bill, e-scooters that don’t allow for pedal-assisted cycling above 25km per hour will be treated the same as normal pedal cycling, however the new laws haven’t come into force yet.

This means they’re still classified as “powered personal transporters” which are subject to vehicle registration, tax and insurance.

 

Head of the Roads Policing Unit in the Clare Garda Division, Inspector Paul Slattery says the rules are clear when it comes to using e-scooters in public places.
