A Clare garda superintendent says there’s no group in society more likely to be found driving under the influence as roads policing operations for the St Patrick’s Weekend get underway.
Gardaí began monitoring routes across the county at 7am on Thursday and will have checkpoints in place until the same time on Wednesday.
Over this weekend last year, 2,650 drivers were detected for speeding offences, with 214 arrests taking place, while two people lost their lives and eight received serious or life-threatening injuries in collisions.
Superintendent with the Clare-Tipperary Garda Division Eddie Golden has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons everyone should take responsibility for their own actions while encouraging those around them to make the right decisions.
